For the many thousands of people who leave the armed forces each year, a vocational qualification can be a helpful first step towards a new career.
Service leavers have often gained valuable skills and experience which make them well-suited to a career in health and safety. It’s a profession that is highly valued across many industries such as construction, chemicals and utilities.
Lots of NEBOSH learners have come from service backgrounds, including the Royal Navy, Corps of Royal Marines and the Royal Air Force. Our qualifications have supported ex-military personnel to not only enter the health and safety profession, but progress to management positions as well. They give you the knowledge and skills to be able manage a range of health and safety risks, keeping people safe from harm. Please visit our Qualifications page to find out about NEBOSH qualifications.
"Thanks in no small part to NEBOSH, I’ve been handed the kind of challenging position I’ve really been seeking as a qualified SHE professional.”
Adam King
Head of SHEQ at Renewi and former Royal Marine Commando

Enhanced Learning Credits (ELC)
The Ministry of Defence (MOD) use Enhanced Learning Credits (ELC) to sponsor Armed Forces personnel to improve their education and, in particular, to support them through resettlement as they move into civilian life. ELC funding can be used to pay for NEBOSH qualifications.
The ELC scheme provides financial support for service leavers wishing to undertake recognised qualifications at Level 3 (NEBOSH Certificate level) or above. Full information on the ELC scheme, approved courses, eligibility and how to apply can be found on the Enhanced Learning Credits Administration Service (ELCAS) website
ELC approved Learning Partners must meet a set of rigorous requirements. There are currently around 50 NEBOSH Learning Partners approved to the ELC scheme. You can search for a Learning Partner or a course on the ELCAS website: Approved providers.
Please note, that although the Learning Partner as an organisation may be approved you must still ensure that the specific course has been approved.
