NEBOSH to share story of its first major collaboration with HSE at Europe’s largest process safety conference
Monday, 13 May 2019
Two years after the successful launch of the NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Process Safety Management, NEBOSH Head of Strategy Matt Powell-Howard will offer unique insight into the research, development and collaboration behind the qualification, in a presentation at Hazards 29, Europe’s largest process safety conference.
Speaking alongside Justin Holroyd, Major Hazards Specialist in the Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE’s) Process and Risk Team, Matt will share the story of the qualification’s development with the audience at IChemE’s annual Hazards conference later this month in Birmingham. The conference brings together hundreds of practitioners from around the world and provides an opportunity for delegates to keep up to date with the latest news, share good practice, and network with fellow professionals in high-hazard industries.
The highly regarded Certificate in Process Safety Management was launched in September 2017. The first collaboration of its kind between the safety regulator and NEBOSH, the Certificate combines each organisation’s strengths: the HSE’s advanced technical “high hazard” expertise and NEBOSH’s unparalleled ability to produce standard-setting qualifications in occupational safety and health. Following the success of the partnership, NEBOSH and the HSE have since joined forces on two further projects, launching new qualifications on leadership in 2018 and, earlier this year, on incident investigation.
Matt and Justin’s presentation will look at the development of the process safety management qualification from initial concept to launch, exploring the collaboration between NEBOSH and the HSE. The robust two-year development process involved extensive research, consultation and piloting, and involved past and present learners, safety professionals, significant employers within the process industries in the UK and internationally, and professional bodies.
The NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Process Safety Management is aimed at managers, safety reps and health and safety advisers, wherever in the world they may work. It covers process safety leadership; the management of process risk; process safety hazard control; and fire and explosion protection.
