NEBOSH launches International Diploma in Environmental Management

Sunday, 27 August 2017

NEBOSH has launched a new qualification that will support professionals across the globe to develop and implement effective environmental management systems within their organisations.

The International Diploma in Environmental Management will equip students with practical skills and best practice, which can be applied to real-life situations.

Developed in response to demand from international employers, course providers and candidates – more than half of students taking NEBOSH’s UK-centric Diploma in Environmental Management are based outside of the UK – the qualification aims to provide practitioners with skills they can use in other countries across the world. The syllabus covers environmental management principles, multilateral treaties relating to environmental management, and ways to prevent and control pollution. It includes the benefits, limitations and structure of an environmental management system, environmental aspect identification and control, plus the principles and drivers for environmental sustainability. NEBOSH has specifically ensured the qualification has a flexible modular approach, so students can fit it around their work and personal commitments.

Qualified staff will be equipped to help their employers avoid prosecution, litigation and loss of reputation and will be able to help instil environmental ethics and best practice into the workplace. Additionally, any organisation with NEBOSH qualified employees, demonstrates professional-level environmental assurance, which can help them to achieve recognised management standards, such as ISO 14001, and win new business.

Matthew Powell-Howard, Qualification Development Manager at NEBOSH, commented: “Our International Diploma in Environmental Management is a really practical qualification. It was born from speaking to companies, course providers and students about what they need. Whilst we already have our very successful National Diploma in Environmental Management – focussed on UK regulations – we recognise it’s important, in this increasingly globalised environment, to develop a qualification which supports international organisations, and equips their employees with the practical skills and best practice they need, to work anywhere in the world.”

Those who pass the International Diploma in Environmental Management will achieve a globally respected, degree-level qualification with all graduates eligible to use the letters IEnvDipNEBOSH after their name. Successful students will also fulfil the requirements for Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) Practitioner level membership (PIEMA). As the worldwide alliance of environment and sustainability professionals, this IEMA membership will give practitioners access to the practical support they need to deliver on their sustainability goals.

Courses for the International Diploma in Environmental Management will be offered from September 2017. For more information about the qualification and where to study click here.
