One year on: celebrating the NEBOSH and HSE qualification for business leaders
Tuesday, 23 April 2019
In 2018 NEBOSH and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) launched the jointly developed NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Health and Safety Leadership Excellence.
One year on and this one-day qualification is proving to be incredibly popular with existing and aspiring business leaders who want to become better influencers of health and safety within their organisation.
Following the renewed leadership involvement in the new IS0 45001 standard, the spotlight is on leadership more than ever to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of their workforce. That’s why this certificate, developed from HSE’s leadership model, gives learners a core understanding of how their behaviours and responsibilities impact health and safety performance.
One aspiring leader is Neil Fisher, Health & Safety Adviser for Network Rail. He already held four NEBOSH certificates and had years of experience in a practitioner role but Neil’s got an ambitious goal – to move into a senior safety management role. He said: “Going home every week knowing I’ve made a difference to front-line health and safety gives me real satisfaction. But I want to make even more of a difference by having bigger influence at a corporate level.
“The Leadership Certificate is different to the other NEBOSH qualifications I’ve taken; it focuses on increasing your personal impact as a leader in a health and safety context. I cannot praise this new qualification enough and I’ve been recommending it within my own organisation. I would challenge anyone not to take something away from it that will be valuable to their business.”
